Grateful

Such a lovely day: cool and smelling like autumn. Loved these beautiful flowers and the smell of cinnamon-toasted pine cones, later tiny butter leaf cookies with jasmine tea. Happiest of all for a sweet sense of gratitude at each little gift. A wonderful book and fun workout helped too. ;) Nice break in the middle of such a busy week!

Egret and duck having breakfast

Glanced out my father-in-law's window one cool, misty morning and saw this.  Wow!

coming home

So grateful for trees and time and poetry today.  This precious life...

Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Sleeping in the Forest
I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts, her pockets
full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms
breathing around me, the insects,
and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell, as if in water,
grappling with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.

Potluck joy

Love when healthy food tastes better than junk. Sweet local sugar plums and a quinoa cranberry crumble I had with yummy avocado cream. Wow!

Labyrinth walk

Lovely time at a dear friend's home this weekend...

Morning

Lovely, cool morning on Saturday before things heated up again. That white egret visits most days and I thought I saw it flying with a mate. :)

these wonderful summer days

Beautiful

When your mind is the clear mirror of meditative awareness, you will know that you are the outward expression of the essence of reality. ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Up among the trees

There's been a sudden reappearance of summery weather out here along the river (sunny, breezy with high's in the 80's just before Memorial Day).  I love all of the seasons but each one feels like my favorite as it rolls in; you can still feel spring in the area but it's giving way to summer quicker than a blink.  We are, however, experiencing it in a slightly different way now that we are back home and 10 feet off the ground.  We always loved the river view but we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in what feels a little bit like a tree house suspended among 100 year old Sycamore trees.  (Sycamores are actually not native to our area but our fellow water-lovers feel like old friends that belong here as much as the sweet Maples). :) Here are some pictures of the aerie... ;)  Look for the baby raccoon in the tree in the last picture.  He got down safely!

Hope you are enjoying beautiful weather wherever you are...

Hello again from our new space :)

Hadn't realized how long it's been since I've posted anything, but sweet days and many pictures have rolled by in the meantime. We moved back into a renovated space a year ago, after a pretty major flood came through in 2011. The new project is raising our house 6 feet so floods are a little less exciting around here. :) The best part for now is a cozy wood stove and a little more open space.

Here are some pictures (and we always love guests anytime you're in the area, fellow bloggers). :)
